In order to raise the money we require for all our welfare activities we run a series of events throughout the year.

Our main fund raising event during the year is the Annual Auction held in the Lechlade Memorial Hall during spring. The event is our biggest logistical challenge involving all members but it provides  up to £3000 to the coffers. During the year we also run the several other fund raising events including bric-a-brac and book sales in local village halls.
 
We have several functions that both raise money and provide  entertainment.  During the last couple of years we have run a “Big Band Night” in conjunction with Lechlade Christmas Lights Committee.

In November, we assist Swindon Lions in the running of their Firework event and we receive a very welcome cheque from them for our efforts.
 
Santa’s Sleigh in the run up to Christmas helps to swell the funds and gives much pleasure to the younger members of the community.  The smiles are reward enough without the collection!.   We will publish when and where Santa will be going a bit closer to Christmas.
 
In the weeks before Christmas  we run a raffle to fund the January Senior Citizens Party.  There are many prizes and we are always grateful to local businesses who donate most of then.
 Like many Lions Clubs we have a lions soft toys  stall that we take along to local school fetes and similar  events.  In many cases  we donate the profits from the stall  to the events organisers.

This year, our Welfare committee have received various requests but in particular from a local GP, in connection with her voluntary work in Sierra Leone. The Fund Raising committee will be raising monies in order to purchase various medical items to be used in Sierra Leone – See press for further fund raising details regarding this.
 
We also help other groups to raise funds.  Often this is a better alternative to just providing cash.  Examples are providing a bar at a dance or handling car parking.
