Fundraising

In order to raise the money we require for all our welfare activities we run a series of events throughout the year.

Our main fund raising event during the year is the Charity  Auction held in the Lechlade Village Hall during spring. The events is our biggest logistical challenge involving all members but it provides  up to £3000 to the coffers. During the year we also run the several  bric-a-brac sales in local village halls.

We have several functions that both raise money and provide  entertainment.  One popular example is the Race Night when people  from around the area have an exciting evening betting on cars or horses  and get a good meal as well.  Its good to see some of them winning  but we like it better when they go home with less than when they came!

In the weeks before Christmas  we run a raffle to fund the January Senior Citizens Party.  There are many prizes and we are always grateful  to local businesses who donate most of then.

Like many Lions Clubs we have a teddy bear stall that we take along to local school fetes and similar  events.  In many cases  we donate the profits from the stall  to the events organisers.

We also help other groups to raise funds.  Often this  is a better alternative  to just providing cash.  Examples are  providing a bar at a dance or handling car parking.

With the RAF Fairford airbase on our patch it is inevitable  that we get roped in to help with the Royal International  Air Tattoo.  It means and early start on each day and we take  responsibility for the gates and getting 200,000 people into the event.  The RIAT committee give us a sizeable donation for our efforts
